Abstract

Sexism is an issue affecting every school, which teachers need to leave behind if they want to educate, considering democratic values as justice, equality and freedom. From Literature classroom, teachers can challenge inequality by making new practices against the male-dominance, for example, to make women more visible across the curriculum. What we learn is not neutral and objective, but reflects male-dominance both in social and economic infrastructure. This article argues that it is possible and necessary to expand our look as literature teachers, including female literary production. To start, it would be interesting to inquire about formal and hidden curriculum, without forgetting the importance of textbooks, where the women writers usually do not appear, which causes huge consequences in the student body. Our task as teachers should head to challenge this partial writing to foster richer and better adapted to reality literary tradition in student body.
