Abstract

In  the  last  years,  Spain  has  become  a host  country  for  immigrants  of  very diverse  origin. A project  to integrate  this growing  plurality  in schools  has emerged. Each immigrant  group claims  his/her ethnic differences  within  the democratic  host society.  We aim  at unraveling  the identity  processes  (from  an ethnic  perspective) taking into account  the different  home cultures  and their symbolic  systems. Thus, it is of great importance  to develop an intercultural  education  based on the construction of a common  culture,  with democratic  values and which allows a civic interrelation among  the different  groups.
