Abstract

This article explores the diverse paths of transmission of notions on female phisiology and health in the West during the Middle Ages, and their reception in the Hebrew medical corpus. It has been paid especial attention to the ecleptic and harmonazing way in which Jewish medical authors and compilers seem to have received and adopted ideas from different medical traditions. The article also devotes especial interest to the influence of Arabic gynaecology and the often indirect way in which it arrived to Hebrew texts. It includes as well the edition and translation of a short Hebrew treatise entitled Chapter on women.
