Abstract
This paper deals with the use of intertextuality in two important works, the first novels which were written in Hebrew and Arabic. They are ’Ahabat Sion (1853), written in Hebrew by Abraham Mapu in the framework of the Haskalah and Zaynab. Manāzir waajlāq rifīyya (1914) by the Egyptian writer Husayn Haykal, written in the framework of the Nahda.
