What we think is a hot topic nowadays, often not so, as the human being and its vicissitudes are largely the same throughout the centuries. In this article we deal with the disorders that arose in the Sephardic community of Thessaloniki in the late nineteenth century in relation to the rents of houses, the struggles with owners and the frequent evictions. To do it, we use texts in prose and verse appeared in the Sephardic press of the city in those days. These texts are interesting not only from a literary point of view, but also as they are an irrefutable sociological evidence of the experiences of a community now gone forever.
