Abstract

The origins of the legend of Noah's fourth son is of much interest for al-Andalus, since it is an intriguing matter of debate the extent to which Mozarabic communities had known that legend. Contrary to the hypotheses hitherto put forward, the present article reopens the Rabinic origins of the legend, taking into account its appearance in the Coran and in the exegetic literature based on a Muslim tradition. According to this hypothesis, such legend would eventually have had a further reception, and a development-variation and amplification in Christian Syriac circles.
