Abstract

M. K. ìa‘far published in 1978 a first incomplete edition of the Epistle on Interpretation (Risalat al-I‘tibar), a work previously unknown. The new edition presented here, more rigorous and complete, aims to avoid and redress the shortcomings of the preceding one. In this main Sufi work, Ibn Masarra al-Qurtubi (883-931) explains the need of reflection to interpret the signs of the universe as well as the signs of the revealed Book. To the descent of revelation corresponds the ascent of reason in the process of inference.
