Abstract

Queen Asma’ bint Šihab shared the throne with her husband ‘Ali b. Muhammad al-Sulayhi, founder of the Sulayhid dinasty in Yemen in the year 439/1047. As an aristrocrat and intellectual, Asma’ bint Šihab was a great influence in the government of her kingdom until her death, leaving her niece and daughter-in-law al-Sayyida bint Ahmad, as her successor.
