Abstract

Detailed analysis of the meaning of the cock in Arab-Islamic tradition. Based on several Arabic sources such as Qur’an, the hadith literature, the Qisas al-anbiya’ of al-Kisa’i, the escathology of al-Ta'labi, and Adab books, it shows the aspects of the bird, the tales and references brought about by the sources, and offers a final interpretive analysis.
