Abstract

In November-December 1864, Francisco Merry y Colom, minister plenipotentiary of Spain in Morocco with residence in Tangiers, travelled on official mission to Rabat, by then residence of the Sultan Muhammad IV, with the purpose of facing some unresolved Spanish-Moroccan conflicts, as well as promoting and strengthening good relations between the two states started with the 1860 peace treaty that put an end to the “War of Africa”. Docu- mentation included has been unpublished so far and will prove especially relevant also for the description of Morocco and its socio-political reality in that period.
