The role of women in the movement of families of political prisoners during Morocco’s Years of Lead
Keywords:
History of Morocco, Movement of families, Women, PrisonAbstract
At the beginning of the 1970s, the families of political prisoners, mainly of Marxist-Leninist ideology, united to try breaking the silence about the situation of their relatives and to demand their release. They formed a social movement, mostly integrated by women, upon realization of their relatives’ defencelessness, fostered by the passivity of most political parties, trade unions and the press in the face of the wave of arrests carried out by the State.
