Publication Ethics and Publication Malpractice Statement
“El Criminalista Digital. Papeles de Criminología” is an academic journal that adheres to this Statement on Ethics and Malpractice in Publishing (PEMS) based on the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
ETHICAL OBLIGATIONS OF THE JOURNAL
The Journal “El Criminalista Digital. Papeles de Criminología” is committed to:
- Ensure the scientific quality levels in accordance with the editorial line of the Journal.
- Guarantee the correct development of all operating procedures, including the protection of the identity of authors and reviewers.
- Act in the event of non-compliance with the rules contained in this Declaration on Publication Ethics and Malpractice (PEMS).
- Have a policy of preserving the contents of the journal by backing up a digital copy of them, covering cases in which the publication does not continue its activity.
ETHICAL OBLIGATIONS OF PUBLISHERS
The publishers commit to:
- Assume a duty of confidentiality regarding the papers received, and only if they are published will their authorship be revealed.
- Act impartially during the publication process, observing exclusively the criteria of a formal and material nature present in the rules of the journal.
- Guarantee the scientific quality of the contents published in the Journal, promoting compliance with the present Declaration of Ethics and Malpractice in Publication (PEMS), and the control and intervention in the event of scientific fraud, adopting the necessary measures in the event of non-compliance.
ETHICAL OBLIGATIONS OF EVALUATORS
The evaluators commit to:
- Assume a duty of confidentiality regarding the papers received, and their content may not be used without the express written consent of the authors.
- Act objectively during the development of the evaluation process, observing exclusively the criteria of a formal and material nature present in the publication rules of the Journal.
- Guarantee the scientific quality of the contents published in the Journal, promoting compliance with the present Declaration of Ethics and Malpractice in Publication (PEMS), and the control and intervention in the event of scientific fraud, adopting the necessary measures in the event of non-compliance.
- Refrain from evaluating any work in the event of a conflict of interest, which will be communicated to the Journal as soon as possible.
ETHICAL OBLIGATIONS OF AUTHORS
The autors commit to:
- Guarantee the authorship of the work, expressly indicating the different co-authors in the event that the text is made up of different significant contributions.
- Guarantee originality, respecting intellectual property regulations and the rules of citation in cases of reference to other works. Under no circumstances will any form of scientific fraud be accepted, which is considered a serious breach of ethics in accordance with the Guidelines for Retracting Articles of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
- Guarantee the unpublished nature of the work. No significant part will have been published in any format -such as monograph, book chapter, scientific article or popular article, among others-, nor will it be subject to any evaluation process at the time of submission or during the evaluation process.
- Accept that the contents submitted will be subjected in all cases to a rigorous peer review process -double-blind method- and provide their collaboration during its development.
- Make the necessary changes derived from the peer review process for publication, or to formally revoke the proposed contents; in any case, to collaborate during the review process and, where appropriate, publication..
PEER REVIEW PROCESS
- The papers received are subject to an initial review, and the evaluation procedure may be rejected for reasons of inadequacy to the editorial objectives of the Journal, manifest lack of quality or formal incorrectness. This decision will be communicated to the authors, who will have the right to reply, receiving a response from the Journal in all cases.
- The work is submitted to a double-blind peer review process (DBPR: Double-Blind-Peer-Review). The anonymity of authors and reviewers is guaranteed throughout the procedure by adopting the necessary measures. The anonymised texts will be sent to independent external reviewers, experts in their scientific field, trained to evaluate the work according to its specific characteristics.
- The result of the evaluation may be ‘rejected’, ‘accepted with modifications’ or ‘accepted’. In cases of both acceptance and rejection, the work will be subject to a third evaluation.
OPEN ACCESS POLICY
- Submission of a paper to the Journal implies authorisation for its present and future publication on the Internet, as well as permission for its re-dissemination in other electronic or paper formats that may be made in the future.
- The Journal provides free, open and immediate access to its contents in accordance with the criteria of ‘Open Science’.
- The process of publication in the Journal is completely free of charge.
DATA PROTECTION
- The Journal guarantees the confidentiality of the information during the development of all publication procedures.
- The contents of the Journal are published in the Journal Portal of the University of Granada, hosted on the servers of this academic institution.
COMPLAINTS
- Any author, reviewer or reader may submit complaints via the contact address available on the Journal's website.
- The Journal undertakes to respond to complaints in a reasoned manner as soon as possible.
