In this “Dual Year” of Spain in Russia and Russia in Spain, it is our purpose to take a look at the impressions of Spanish travellers to Russia throughout history. From Abu Hamid al-Garnati, in the 11th century, to the lives of children exiled from Spain during the Civil War, many Spaniards have described this land. The travels to that “other pole of the European axis” (as Russia was referred to by Ortega y Gasset) include those purely evangelical, diplomatic or military. Most of these travellers have emphasized the character similarities between both nations.
