Résumé

El presente artículo se propone analizar la relación entre la mágica nociva y el demonismo, los componentes esenciales de la idea de la brujería en la Edad Moderna, ylas emociones en Inglaterra y Nueva Inglaterra entre 1563 y 1692. A partir de la lectura de panfletos sobre el accionar de brujos ideados para consumo popular, registrosjudiciales y tratados demonológicos escritos por miembros de la elite cultural, se busca demostrar dos cuestiones. Por un lado, que las denuncias judiciales por aquel delito se vinculaban con respuestas emocionales por parte de los acusados que eran conside- radas indeseables a nivel social; por otro, que el demonio abordaba y seducía a sus aliados humanos apelando a circunstancias de fragilidad sentimental. De este modo, se plantea como hipótesis que, en el espacio atlántico inglés, el delito de los brujos, yafuera el maleficium o el demonismo, tenía una incuestionable dimensión emocional. El origen de aquel se hallaba en la existencia de emociones que no eran controladasadecuadamente por los acusados de haber cometido dicho crimen.
