Abstract

The concept of “political love” in the Spanish monarchy during the seventeenth century was used in order to achieve greater political cohesion. In contrast, during the War of Spanish Succession, It was used by supporters of Philip V to counteract the cause of the Archduke Charles of Austria. Based on theological language, influenced by Augustinian and Thomistic topics, the followers of Archduke were presented as alienated by their pride and self-esteem.
