Abstract

This study analyzes the role played by the trade of a particular kind of wool called “churra” in the economic activity of the region around Soria during the XVIth. century. At the same time it tries to highlight the peculiarities of this trade in comparison with the trade of wool from the “merina” sheep, that spent winters in the south of the country. Attention is payed to the identification of wool sellers, who were most of them owners of small flocks. Next, mention is made of the destinies of the “churra” wool, which was the main raw material for the local textile industry. And lastly attention is payed to the identification of the merchants, who lived most of them in the city of Soria.
