Abstract

Water usage during the Middle Age and the Early Modem Era has once again become an important topic over the past decade. The author insists on the expression “once again” because early 19th century historians had also shown an interest in “matters of water”.

The author presents a selection of the historic bibliography on irrigation and hydraulic tecniques used in medieval and early modern Spain, as well as in its colonial territories up to 1800. The aim of this article is to indicate the status of research regarding water use in each Spanish region to date. For this purpose, in the third part of the paper, the author presents an addenda with the last three years contributions.
