Abstract

We study the Comunero Movement in the area of La Mancha and its incidence in the Maestrazgos of the Military Orders of Calatrava and Santiago, as well as in the priorship of San Juan, through unpublished documents. We show the impact of the conflicts in a mainly rural enviorment: the rebellion was soon crushed in Ciudad Real, Calatrava. San Juan remained faithful to Charles I and Campo de Montiel (Order of Santiago) took up arms due to the revolt in Murcia and the Adelantamiento of Cazorla.
