Abstract

Forest formations have never been considered natural in the dry lowlands of Almería (S. E Spain). This has been the most widely accepted interpretation and comes from de scope of phytosociology. Exhaustive botanic field work, the study of place names alluding to forests and investigation of abundant historical documentation has led us to the discovery of the last remaining forests that presently exist in this corollogic sector, totally ignored by investigators. Finally, we develop an analysis of the various models of relationships between man and the natural environment in the east of de kingdom of Granada.
