Abstract

Research on historical demography upon the province of Granada in Modern Ages has been focused mainly on the development of population within the capital, therefore little is known about its rural outskirts. Alfacar, a village located on the northern border of its fertile plain and at only six kilometres from Granada, will be our focus of attention to approach the development of death rate throughout the XVII century, traditionally considered in crisis. As a source, we will make use of parroquial records. Despite of the source used, the segregation of data by: age, civil state and economical status has greatly allowed us to show the influence of death rate in every social level.
