Abstract

One of the situations that caused the agrarians crisis in the Ancient Regime was the cereal shortage for the people. In a basically agrarian economy, like the one of Guadix, the phenomenon happened with some frequency. The lack of those grains boosted the local authorities to turn to the communal granary and the big owners looking for provisions. One of them was the Church, who along the Ancient Regime crisis played an important role in all this situation. Civil and religions authorities maintained a continuous relationship: sometimes, looking after the population in order to supply it and to avoid a starvation time; another times, bringing their wheat and making an important profit. In this panorama, we are present at the time of the prices changes that will lay down the norms in each moment.
