Abstract

This research is about an important professional group in modern Castile: the public notaries. For it, we propose some ways of research that have been absent in historiography, which can make applied to the others collectives from public administration of Castile in Ancient Régime. First, the study of notaries public offices according to some questions like access, occupation and transmission from it. In the second place, try to know the social situation which turn around these notaries: family, networks... Finally, the culture of book in this learned minority that could be considered —at least, in theory— like a “cultural elite” of society.
