Abstract

The rule (the ordenanzas) is the essential document for confraternities. This is the guarantee for its functioning and its offícial admission, at the same time. The Ordenanzas of Granada's Brotherhood of Vera Cruz (1547) designed a confraternal model that was chosen by their brotherhood's members: a penitential confraternity with a veneration to the Cross of Jesús Christ and to Blessed Virgin, with a public whip's procession at the Holy Week and with an hospital for works of charity. That brotherhood, located at its own hospital, finally moved to a Franciscan monastery.
