Abstract

In 1501, the Muslim population of Granada had to be christened. The archbishop did not have enough priests at that moment to give the new Christians pastoral care and requested priests from other dioceses. A few years later, all the vacancies in the Cathedral, Royal chapel and town and village parish churches were filled. This paper shows how many secular clergymen there were in Granada in 1527, who they were, and what they were like, that is, the clergy that rechristened the Granada diocese in the XVI century.
