Abstract

State of research regarding the Jeronimite friar Hernando de Talavera. The religious foundations of his thought and ecclesiastic and political activities, based on his writings and his pastoral action. Review of the principal aspects of his life until 1492: Confessor of Isabel I, advisor on administrative reforms, diplomat, great manager of royal finances during the conquest of Granada, ecclesiastical reformer. Exposition of his thought regarding the Inquisition, the “New Chrisitians”, relations with Islam, coexistence with Granada’s Muslims and their non-forceful evangelization beginning in 1492 as archbishop of Granada.
