Abstract

In the XVI and XVII century, Spain and Portugal extended their dominions to the Far East, and established business relations. The conversion to Christianity became a priority, especially in Japan, more interested in strengthening trade ties, and therefore it was more permissive at the beginning to accept the presence of the missionaries in the country. The jesuit Juan Bautista de Baeza was one of those missionaries who lived in Japan between 1590 and 1626, and sent a series of letters, including three to his brother Baltasar de Baeza.
