Abstract

The practical and cultural importance of water in the Alhambra is to be seen not only at the time of Moslem dominance but also in that of the Castilian Reconquest. An examination of documents in the archives of the Alhambra allows us to plot the use and management of water in the Alhambra over four centuries, and to study the development and financing of the main system of water courses, the Royal Irrigation channel and its relation to the River Darro.
