Abstract

lt sets out the different ways women's body has been manipulated in order to be prepared
for motherhood. Pedagogues, doctors and moralist joined forces to imstil a correct behaviour
into women. Rebellion was shown through neurosis, which was not considered to break social
rules, but some went beyond them. A novel by Matilde Cherer about prostitution and, on the
other hand, the work by the viscountess of Corbalán about the reeducation of these women
are taken as examples.
