This paper makes an analysis of the different uses adopted in Spain of historical memory from the postwar period to the present, distinguishing between what the autor calls memory as exchange value, characteristic of the Franco dictatorship, and memory as use value, characteristic of the period from the late 1990s to early 2000s whose text of reference is the current Act 52/2007 of 26 December on Historical Memory. The article makes a critical analysis of the memory concept shown in the said Act and claims the need to activate “another” concept of memory useful to address the current policies of dismantling democracy and rights.
