History of the Journal
The journey of this periodical publication began in 2009, from the invitation extended by Ramón Flecha, professor of Sociology of Education at the University of Barcelona, to Enrique Raya Lozano, professor of Social Work and Social Policy at the University of Granada. The offer was to develop a project for an electronic international scientific journal in Social Work, that would be useful for the development of the professional field called “social work” (“social work”, “serviço social”, “travail social”, “sozial arbeit”) and, at the same time, would be a vehicle for quality research in these theoretical-practical fields (Social Work, Social Policy, Social Sciences applied to social problems and social intervention). It was to be an independent discussion, which followed the most demanding guidelines and standards of electronic publishing, with the aim of entering in the short term into the most reputable international indices and databases of Scientific Documentation.
For this purpose, there was an extensive Spanish and international network, directly or indirectly related to two university research groups in Applied Social Sciences, the CREA (Centre Especial de Recerca en Teories i Práctiques Superadores de Desigualtats) of the University of Barcelona and the SEPISE (Seminar of Studies for Social and Educational Intervention) of the University of Granada. Its editing team was formed between Barcelona and Granada, co-directed by Ariadna Munté Pascual, from the UB, and Enrique Raya Lozano, from the UGR.
Its first volume (two issues) was published in 2010. In 2011, no. 3 was published, and due to various difficulties encountered during the management, as well as changes in the editorial policy of the Hipatia publishing company, it was decided to negotiate its transfer to the University of Granada Publishing House (EUG) .
The publication managed to get back on track in 2013, sponsored by the SEPISE Research Group, linked to the Department of Social Work and Social Services of the University of Granada, and under the direction of prof. Enrique Raya Lozano.
Trabajo Social Global-Global Social Work, has a clear international, “global” vocation, but with a special foothold throughout the Ibero-American world (Spain, Portugal and all Latin American countries). It is an international scientific journal that explicitly adheres to values of progress, typical of critical social work, and social research with a vocation for social transformation guided by these values.
