Abstract

In this article the principal stages of Hispanovisigothic anti-Jewish legislation are examined. The anti-Jewish policies of the Visigothic kings are analyzed with special emphasis on two standpoints: ideological and sociopolitical. It is concluded that the history of the Spanish Jewry during antiquity demonstrates the need for a sociological analysis based on a conceptualization of this minority as a vertical hierarchy.
