Abstract

This article examines the controversial ancient Hebrew inscription in Sagunto (Valencia, Spain), attributed to a military chief under king Amaziah of Judah. The article shows that while the inscription cannot be considered a hoax, the poor conservation led to erroneous interpretations of the text since the Middle Ages.
