Abstract

The study is trying to challenge Schirmann's classical  article "The Life of Judah Halevi" that was published over fifty years ago. It is based on new manuscript evidence from the second Firkovich collections in St. Petersburg as well as on a new evaluation of the poet's metaphoric language, while taking into account well established topoi and conventions in the parallel Arabic literature.
