Abstract

In this paper the author tries to prove that the history, structural properties and dialectical variations of the Aramaic language offer a vast field of investigation for modern research. After the situation of the Aramaic language in the North-western Semitic family of languages, the author intends to divide it into five distinct periods: Ancient, Official, Middle, Late and Modern.
