The author analyzes the image of Jews which is offered by the first Spanish Africanist newspaper in the last third of the nineteenth century when the initial contacts between Spain and Morocco were established. The newspaper La Estrella de Occidente was identified with one of the most important groups of Orientalists in Spain at the time, the University of Granada. The journal offers a vision of what should be the Spain colonialism in Morocco in general and shows the role should be played by each one of the communities, in particular.
