Abstract

The study of published information in newspapers might clarify how the image of the Jews, and the Sephardim’s too, was being built. In this paper, the presence and the treatment of the latter are analysed, specifically in one of the most relevant publications during the Spanish Second Republic, which was the newspaper Ahora. It was a source that was located within the boundaries of possibilism and the moderate sections of both political wings. In addition, it had some interest in showing who and how were the Sephardim to the Spanish society. Regarding Sephardim, the newspaper launched a campaign in order to put Spain and the Spanish principles together, growing them apart, at the same time, of other Jewish communities.
