Abstract

The word al-mut'a, meaning pleasure, is used by Islamic Law to denote a temporary marriage. It is officiated by agreement between a man and a woman. In the contract it must be fixed the period of time at which end the contract will be terminated. Besides, no inheritance rights are derived between the bride and groom. The practice was interrupted at the beginning of Islam. Only Shiites are still doing it nowadays.
