Abstract

Assesses the causes of the Islamic conquest of the Iberian Peninsula by taking into account the study of the medieval chronicles, both Christian (Latin and Spanish) and Arabic. All of them explain this historical event in terms of the intervention of two kinds of forces, namely supernatural and human. As far as the former are concerned, a greater divergence between both sides can be ascertained. However, the human protagonists are always the same, even if they fulfil different roles in each case.
