A portratit of the poet Ibn Al-Khatib, by Ibn Al-Ahmar, scholar and historian from Granada

The poetical biography of Ibn al-Khatib by Ibn al-Ahmar, which is extremely sparing of personal details, abounds in verse fragments, like a medium-sized (37 lines) qasida praising the Albayzín, and two sets of short poems (respectively, 13 madrigals, of which three are exclusive to the Nathir faraid al-djuman; and 18 satirical pieces on al-Bunnahi). Also of note in this text is a long letter from Muhammad V to the sultan of Tunis Abu Ishaq al-Mustansir bi-Llah, whose title (Iftiras al-isaba ilà iftirash al-inaba, i.e., “Aiming to hit the bullseye, so as to favour the delegation's success”) must be added to the list of known works by Ibn al-Khatib.Downloads
