Abstract

The aim of this paper is to analyse the negotiations previous to the War of Africa (1859-1860) from confidential telegraphic dispatches exchanged between the Consul General of Spain in Morocco, Juan Blanco del Valle, and the Minister of State, Saturnino Calderon Collantes. It is also analysed the diplomatic notes exchanged during negotiations between Blanco and the Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sied Mohammed El Jetib. The mentioned dispatches and notes, kept in the Archivo General de la Administración, are the main source of the paper.
