Lévi-Strauss avoided Mesoamerica in his tetralogia Les Mythologiques. He claimed that in this area un class of priests had captized and denatured the mythical narratives. First, it is recalled that theAmerindian systems of myths does not relies on one mytheme but on four mythemes which are the birdnester, the incestuous relationship of Sun and Moon, the Rolling Head and he animals' parade. It is demonstrated at the end that the Mesoamerican ritual, illustrated by Aztec human sacrifice, may be understood as a transposition of the four fundamental mythemes.
