Foreigners at the Costa del Sol Occidental: residential differentiation and characterization of their spatial distribution
Main Article Content
Abstract
Foreigners living in the Costa del Sol represented 31.96% of the total population residing there in 2011. Motivations underlying in their presence among us are double: residential and labour related. In this context, the aim of this paper is, first, investigate the residential differentiation levels of foreigners, both taken as a whole, and divided in the main nationalities present at the Coast. Secondly, discover if their spatial distribution is random, or not, and characterize the statistically significative clusters we could find. To achieve them we have used both the Segregation Index and spatial autocorrelation techniques. Results show that the levels of residential segregation are in general low; that the spatial distributions are not random. And finally, that hot spots can be identified, varying their spatial location with the nationality being considered.
