Abstract

This study approaches the evolution of the railway studding in Andalusia, result of the process of construction initiated in the 19th century. The information is structured in different periods, affecting in the principal produced milestones, as the connection of the principal Andalusian nucleuses, as well as the closing of some lines. It has also analyzed the current state of the network and the new uses that have been given to some lines in disuse.

The used methodology is based, mainly, on the summary of bibliographical and cartographic information, as well as on its update with documents proceeding from official organizations. The most prominent results of the study have been to see how the evolution has happened for different periods of strength, abandon and recovery of the way, which has wanted to be applied also to its infrastructures left for not motorized uses.

Finally, we want to point out how the initial policy of concessions, under a scanty planning, has debilitated the conservation of some lines that were closed, as well as the scanty maintenance of the infrastructures during the pro-Franco dictatorship, which caused a reduction of the demand.
