Abstract

In this paper, we propose a method for establishing the period of time required for the conversion from conventional agriculture to organic farming. The method is based on the quality of the agricultural practices carried out by the farmers, Quantitative and qualitative information about type of culture, inputs, including dose and danger of fertilisers and pesticides, and agricultural practices is obtained from personal inquiries from farmers. Once the results are analysed, an index is derived which establishes the degree of difficulty for conversion to organic farming. The method has been applied to 75 plots in Enguera and Anna. Physical and chemical soil properties have been analysed in 49 of these plots.
