The article looks into A. Platonov’s diary entries and essays as they are reflected in the ideological and artistic structure of his novel “Jan”, as well as the extent to which the concepts outlined in the diaries influence the plot. With sufficient evidence a connection is traced between the artistic ideas stated in the story and the general evolution of the author’s views on the origins and prospects of social changes in Eurasia as seen in the diaries.
