Abstract

The difficult moments those preludes to the death of Charles II were time of a major venality which affected numerous instances of the court of Madrid and the viceroyalty of Naples. Under the analysis of the acquisition and sale of Neapolitan fiefs assigned to the Countess of Berlepsch, Queen Mariana of Neuburg’s favorite, it’s possible to establish several points of analysis on venality in the Monarchy of Spain during the late Seventeenth Century and the sociopolitical channels leading to it from the Real Alcazar in Madrid until the various European commercial cities.
