Abstract

The article focuses on the claims for non-compliance with marriage speech in Western Andalusia of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, which were brought before the Archbishop's Justice, in which the majority of plainswomen are women, as in divorce cases , as they saw their reputation shamed in the event of abandonment. Contrary to what might seem, even though women were the main victims of physical or verbal violence, on many occasions the chance of male success was lower than expected, despite the prevailing patriarchal system of power.
