Abstract

After examining 245 “Requisitions”, negotiated in the Bishopric of Cádiz during the second half of the 18th century, the situation of a group of abandoned women is analysed. These rarely used documents give us the opportunity of analysing in depth diverse situations involving the break up of family order as well as the difficult social, economic and mental equilibrium in which women were placed as statutes of legal dépendance on men.
