Abstract

The provisioning of meat to the city of Granada during early modem age origined several conflicts between the farmers of the rural area of Granada and the cattle raisers. As the country near Granada was an area of scarce cattle raising, municipal authorities considered it indispensable to protect “the path” of the herds that arrived for the city’s supplying and that in their way caused damage in cultivated areas. Little local owners tryed to use this fact procuring to be favoured by a law that had been created for the protection of the cattle that was destined to meat consumption.

Here there are several testimonies, based in actuations of the Real Chancillería, of conflicts of this kind, that took place during more than a century.
