Abstract

Joris Hoefnagel was a very important figure in 16th century Flemish landscape painting, and also a singular pilgrim artist. His celebrated town-views, made during his trips to Spain and published in several volumes of Civitates Orbis Terrarum fixed visual stereotyped figures with an extraordinary international diffussion. Features of Granada were shaped by him with particular affection, pictorial and decorative perspective and picturesque details, famous for centuries. Anton Van den Wyngaerde’s views are considered like a magistral interpretation of rigorous topography.
